Current State and Solutions for Urban Traffic Issues

The State of Urban Traffic in Vietnam

Currently, urban traffic issues in Vietnam are becoming increasingly severe. Traffic congestion frequently occurs, especially during peak hours, causing significant inconvenience to citizens. The main reason is the rapid increase in the number of personal vehicles, while the traffic infrastructure system has not been invested in comprehensively and effectively. Narrow roads, a lack of parking spaces, and an underdeveloped public transportation system are challenging problems that need to be addressed.

Consequences of this situation include:

  • Wasted travel time, impacting productivity.
  • Increased transportation costs for goods and services.
  • Severe environmental pollution from dust and exhaust fumes.
  • Increased risk of traffic accidents.

Necessary Solutions

1. Developing Public Transportation Systems:

Significant investment is needed in modern, high-quality public transportation systems such as Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), subways (metro), and urban railways. This will help reduce the number of personal vehicles, lessening congestion and pollution.

2. Building a Synchronous Traffic Infrastructure:

Expanding and upgrading road systems, bridges, and constructing ring roads are necessary to facilitate movement. Investing in intelligent traffic management systems to effectively coordinate traffic flow is also crucial.

3. Strict Vehicle Management:

Stricter control over vehicle quality is needed, limiting old and substandard vehicles from participating in traffic. Strengthening the handling of traffic violations and raising public awareness of traffic laws are essential.

4. Promoting Environmentally Friendly Vehicles:

Encouraging the use of bicycles, electric motorcycles, electric buses, etc. Investing in infrastructure to support these vehicles, such as dedicated bicycle lanes and public charging stations, is necessary.

5. Increasing Investment in Research and Technology Application:

Applying information technology to traffic management, such as intelligent traffic surveillance and control systems, and mobile applications to assist citizens in efficient travel.

Conclusion

Addressing urban traffic issues is a complex task requiring the efforts of both the government and citizens. Only through close coordination, comprehensive investment, and a change in the awareness of traffic participants can we reduce congestion, ensure safety, and create a civilized and modern traffic environment.
